Our StoryPicture of Founding Heart of the Cumberland Board Member Jill Horner
The death of her mother when she was only seven put a passion in the heart of founding board member, Jill Horner, to provide free resources that would lead to healing and hope for those suffering loss. Once God made some divine connections with a hospice nurse and several teachers, that passion turned into a shared vision that became a reality on February 24, 2009 with the opening of Heart of the Cumberland Grief Center.

Thanks to seed money provided in memory of local teacher, Kaye Brown Martin by her family, initial administrative support/consultation provided by Cookeville Regional Medical Center Foundation, free facility rent provided by Mark Loftis, additional meeting space provided by Stevens Street Baptist Church, and many donations of both time and money from individuals, churches, businesses, and organizations throughout the community, Heart of the Cumberland Grief Center was able to open its’ doors.

“Psalm 147:3 is our foundational scripture. It is our prayer that God will continue to use Heart of the Cumberland through our volunteers, peer support groups and financial partners to reach out to our community and beyond as He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds,” stated Jill Horner.
